The islands near Kuantan are home to several world-class diving sites. The rich coral beds and marvellous aquatic life around these areas will provide some great adventures underwater.

The best spots for diving are those around islands such Pulau Redang, Pulau Tioman and Perhentian, all near to Kuantan.

Most of the beach-side resorts at these diving destinations provide diving lessons through PADI-certified divers and scuba gear.

Redang Island

Redang Island has grown into one of the most popular tourist destinations on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Its incredibly azure waters fringed by white sand, against the backdrop of verdant jungle-clad hills make picture-postcard views.

Redang archipelago comprises 9 islands (Lima Island, Paku Besar Island, Paku Kecil Island, Kerengga Besar Island, Kerengga Kecil Island, Ekor Tebu Island, Ling Island, Pinang Island and the main Redang Island) that abound with marvelous marine fishes, turtles and coral reefs that ensure great snorkelling and scuba-diving.

Tioman Island

Tioman Island is situated 36 nautical miles off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The best time to visit Tioman Island is between May and October, when the weather is favorable.

The ampleness of marine creatures, accessibility and fairly good visibility makes Tioman become one of the most welcome diving areas in Malaysia. In Tioman Island there are many dive operators on the island offering boat and shore dives. They are as well as instruction, full experience and certification trainers and divers.

The surrounding of Tioman Island has over twenty dive sites. With something for everyone from the newly certified to the experienced wreck diver. There underwater topography is diverse and Tioman is also one of the few places in Malaysia where you are likely to come across schools of dolphins.

The island is served by ferries from the Malaysian mainland, and a propeller plane service by Berjaya Air from the Seletar Airport in Singapore and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Kuala Lumpur.

Perhentian Island

Perhentian Island is situated about 21km off the coast of Terengganu and comprises two islands — Perhentian Besar Island and Perhentian Kecil Island. It is accessible from Kuala Besut Jetty, a one-and-half-hour drive north of Kuala Terengganu.

The islands of Perhentian Island offers spectacular dive sites. Sightings of dolphins and whale sharks, the largest fish in the world, are quite common in these waters. These harmless creatures of the sea are usually found close to the equator where they enjoy basking in the warm waters and surprisingly take little or no notice of divers.
