Eco Adventure
The rainforests around Kuantan in Pahang state is Peninsular Malaysia’s richest repository of flora and fauna. Millions of species of trees, plants, shrubs and moving creatures thrive in these deep, tropical forests, offering fascinating sights to explore.
Besides trekking and swimming in waterfalls, eco-lovers can also shoot white-water rapids in Jeram Besu, do abseiling, rock-climbing and herping. The whole range of nature-based activities are there waiting for visitors to explore in Pahang.
The most popular park in Pahang is of course, Taman Negara Pahang, which is also the largest in the Peninsular. For a less-frequented rainforest, head to Endau-Rompin which has some fantastic waterfalls. Other places to check out include Kenong Rimba and the Gunung Senyum Recreational Forest.
Diving & Snorkelling
The islands near Kuantan are home to several world-class diving sites. The rich coral beds and marvellous aquatic life around these areas will provide some great adventures underwater.
The best spots for diving are those around islands such Pulau Redang, Pulau Tioman and Perhentian, all near to Kuantan. Most of the beach-side resorts at these diving destinations provide diving lessons through PADI-certified divers and scuba gear.
Golf
Malaysia , renowned for its beautiful landscapes, is fast emerging as South-East Asia's golfing destination. There are almost 200 golf courses available across the country on different kinds of terrain. Many of the best golfing sites are located around Kuantan in Pahang. Choose your golf course from highland retreats such as Cameron Highlands to beach-side havens such as those around Kuantan city.

Perhaps the highlight would be the chance to cast your stroke amidst a backdrop of green scenery surrounded by fresh, country-side air among the mountains or facing the gentle sea breeze by the beach.
Water Sports
The beaches around Kuantan are perfect for a wide range of water sports and activities. Besides sun-bathing and swimming, visitors can do sailing, jet skiing and surfing in beaches like Cherating and Teluk Chempedak.
The beach-side hotels usually provide these facilities but there are independent operators along the beach as well. Wind-surfing is another popular activity that is fast catching on in Balok Beach.
Fishing
Kuantan is a great place for anglers world-wide. The seas hold a treasure trove of delicious fish such as Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Barracuda, Amberjack and Dorado. Anglers can charter boats from the beach and fish during the night. On the other hand, the rivers and streams around Kuantan hold top game fish that will satisfy the most hard-core of anglers.
Inland, local fishermen hunt for the prized Red Mahseer or 'Kelah', a powerful freshwater fish that plies clear-water, fast-flowing rivers such as the ones in Endau-Rompin Park. Other quarry includes the ferocious 'Toman' or Giant Snakehead, the quick Hampala Barb or 'Sebarau' and the acrobatic Giant Featherback or 'Belidah'. |
